MATERNA Communications and NeoConsult A/S enters a strategic alliance to deliver turnkey service platforms worldwide
Barcelona/Dortmund, 15th February 2010
Together MATERNA Communications and NeoConsult A/S provide complete turnkey service platforms for Mobile Virtual Network Enablers (MVNEs) and Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs), for the Machine-to-Machine (M2M) market, and for centralized Clearinghouses for Number Portability.
With the increasing competition in the telecommunication market, mobile network operators start to open up their wholesales offers for MVNOs, hoping to capture more subscribers that cannot be reached over their additional brands and offerings. While the first wave of MVNOs were connected to the network operators as resellers for specialized and tightly controlled products and tariffs, the next generation of MVNOs will ask for more flexibility and rapid response to changed market requirements. This is becoming a challenge for host network operators as the traditional wholesale capabilities of their existing BSS/OSS infrastructure are often limited.
The new MVNE/MVNO service platform allows for the implementation of a turnkey MVNO aggregation solution that has only minimum impact on the legacy IT and network setup of the host MNO. Thanks to the flexibility and scalability of NeoConsult’s Business and Support System (BSS), the platform can be configured as a fully managed service with only little CAPEX to MVNOs and MNOs. MATERNA is ready to offer the platform as a pay-as-you-grow commercial model that gives more freedom to start-up MVNOs to invest in marketing and sales rather than equipment and technology.
The emerging M2M market starts to challenge the capabilities of the mobile network operators in a similar way compared to the ongoing MVNO market trends. Mobile network operators will need a new business structure to efficiently support hundreds of M2M project partners, equipment manufacturers, and independent application providers.
Based on proven components from MATERNA and NeoConsult, the M2M service platform ensures complete end-to-end business support for the machine-to-machine market segment, including SIM order and resource management, M2M SIM and traffic authentication, authorisation and accounting, real-time view on the communication status of M2M equipment in the field, and a 360° view on M2M business partners. The solution supports complex business hierarchies thanks to an elaborate business domain model, and can be offered as a low-CAPEX, highly scalable, fully managed service.
Number portability is still in its initial phase in many countries outside Europe and the main trend is towards a centralized clearinghouse solution. Early implementations of number portability are characterized by the lack of standard systems and best practices. Our standard central clearinghouse platform and number portability gateway components offer 10 years of proven live experience, which significantly increases quality and reliability, and it also significantly reduces the implementation cost. Together MATERNA and NeoConsult deliver centralized clearinghouse platforms as well as the administrative and operational services required by regulators worldwide. Also the number portability solutions can be offered as a highly scalable and fully managed service.
“NeoConsult’s Business Support System, their telecommunication know-how and experience enables us to offer complete turnkey solutions to the industry. Together, we have proven that our network solutions, integration methodology and service delivery capabilities match with the way how NeoConsult’s solutions are designed. This is complemented perfectly by our solid experience in managing MVNO platfoms as well as delivering carrier-grade solutions as fully managed services with a high degree of reliability”, says Jan Geiger, VP Networks at MATERNA.
“We are very pleased that the strategic alliance with MATERNA now is a reality as it has significant strategic impact on our business. The cooperation with MATERNA supports the international partner strategy, which we introduced a year ago. Together with MATERNA we are now able to both deliver and take full "end to end" responsibility for the solutions taking advance of the extensive knowledge and power in the MATERNA organization” says Henrik Hansen, Chief Sales & Marketing Officer at NeoConsult.
